Well, You Can't Argue With Tradition!

THE TRADITIONAL END OF YEAR MEME:

1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
I wrote a 50000+ word novel (nanowrimo) I went to high school, got confirmed and I preformed on stage(and with spectacular results at that!). I was also hit in the face with a skillet.

2. Did you keep your New Year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Bah! I never keep them. For more on this question, see the post below this one

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
nope. Last year there were quite a few babies, but none this year

4. Did anyone close to you die?
our dog, Sophie. A moment of silence if you please.

5. What countries did you visit?
None. My dad wanted to visit Ireland again, but it just wasn’t going to happen

6. What would you like to have in 2010 which you lacked in 2009?
A finished novel that I am pleased with, a non-buggy computer, initiative, motivation, and some type of music playing device. Oh, and possibly a Muse. Right now I have a Motivation, and though I think a Muse would be nice, he tells me that Muses are only for people who can’t be creative themselves. I’m not sure if I believe him though, I think he’s just jealous.

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched in your memory, and why?
Umm…I don’t know about dates, but when I went to DC with some classmates and teachers, especially that one night when we were flying back home and I was just SO hyper and having so much fun.
The day of the Odyssey of the Mind tournament, which was one of the most amazing days of my life.
The end of school bonfire me and my friends held—also amazing

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Good grades on my finals, 50K in November, getting up off my lazy bum and doing something about my problems, and starting to write again

9. What was your biggest failure?
I don’t like the way my NaNo novel turned out, though namely I’d say the Black’s Forest was the biggest failure overall. I realize what I could have done/can do now to make it better, but I don’t feel like picking it up now, especially at this time of year

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really. I don’t get sick very often

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Oh, lets see, I know this, uh…

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Almost everybody who I know. Friends, family, myself, the voices in my head. You guys all get a pat on the back.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Quite a few people, who I shall not further shame by listing here. internet shaming is just petty. I mean, I am petty, but I won't stoope to that level

14. Where did most of your money go?
NCYC and everybody’s Christmas presents

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
NCYC, Christmas, NaNo, CYC, visiting my Aunt for a week, school getting out, and Halloween, among other things

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
…I’m not sure…

17. Compared to this time last year, are you: Happier or sadder? Thinner or fatter? Richer or poorer?
I am much happier than I was last year
I am neither thinner, nor fatter (but I’m much taller)
And I am richer as well.
Nicccccccccccccce.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Writing, though I’m happy I’ve begun again at all

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Wallowing, fretting, hating, complaining, and generally wasting time.

20. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
I have no idea. I’m never on the phone. Caitlin maybe? Mom? I’m not sure.

OH! I know, Danny! Good ‘ol Danny…

21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Pfft. Naw

22. What was your favorite TV program?
Corner Gas, same as last year, only this year it got canceled. Luckily, my dad’s started getting Netflix, and so we have a couple seasons

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?.
-growl- yeeeeeeessssssssssss >:C

24. What was the best book(s) you read?
I DON’T KNOW, ALRIGHT??!?!? –ahem- sorry ‘bout that. Heh.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Abney Park.
Last year I actually started listening to music, this year I developed preferences. Who knows what 2010 will hold o3o

26. What did you want and get?
A top hat, out of middle school, good scores on my finals, 50K in 30 days, black furry boots of doom and other slightly clichéd, Armageddon-esque concepts, Edge-Up, tarot cards, wint-o-green mints, and a lot of other stuff, this is just what comes to mind

27. What did you want and not get?
A music playing device. That’s really the only non-completely-trivial thing I can think of. More Mints too. I think I may buy some tomorrow, but then my family will tease me for eating an entire bag so quickly. Everyone deserves a vice.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?
oh, there were a bunch…I’m gonna have to say either the Secret Life of Bees, and Back to the future, I, II, and III

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old did you turn?
14 (so old! Gasp!) and I went on a long car ride to an unfamiliar city and wallowed for a short period of time and got ice cream and Mama Mia! Tickets and a book and then we went to a baseball game with my dad’s friends. For my party (though there wasn’t really one) I saw Mama Mia! With my friend Andi, and my parents.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If (almost) everyone in my German class weren’t complete lackwits and worse at the same time. If I had finished my nano novel. If certain events had not taken place at a certain place during that certain time. If fencing had not ceased to bring joy and all sorts of other amazing wonderment. If I had had more epic (and I, unlike the rest of my demographic subcategory, don’t use that word lightly) dreams. If Tim hadn’t gone to a different high school. If my dog, Sophie hadn’t died. If I had sprouted enormous (yet retractable) feathery wings (or bat wings. Either/or really) and had somehow been able to fly with them. If my hair wasn’t so static-y. If my hair wasn’t weirdly thick in weird places. If mchsi hadn’t completely redone their entire design, thus forcing me to get a new email account on a far inferior (from what mchsi used to be) server. (no offence) Oh, sorry, did you say one? 030

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
A bit grungy, a bit dark, a bit eccentric, and an attempt at steampunk. And a dislike of shoes for some reason.
What I’m wearing right now is a good example.
Black/dark jeans – dark
Oversized shirt with pictures of cats dressed like astronauts that I’ve had for at least 7/8 years – eccentric/grunge(hey, I only said a bit grungy)
Fluffy electric blue striped socks- eccentric
No shoes- odd and unexplainable shoe grudge
I also own a top hat and a pocket watch.
*at this point in time, it has become apparent that Lokii has no personal fashion concept, 2009 or otherwise*
Oh, AND fun word Iearned form the person I got this from: Quaintrelle.
Isn’t it wonderful? It is the female equivalent of a dandy. I’m not sure if it applies, but I love the word.

32. What kept you sane?
-cocks head- I was never sane to begin with my hoptoads

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
None, though I realized that my liking of Gerard Butler in 6th/7th grade was due to his name only

34. What political issue stirred you the most?
Gay marriage. It just shouldn’t even be an issue. I’m not going to go into anything here, I’m not politically minded at all, but it’s disappointing to me how same sex marriage is seen as so bad that they have had the idiocy to illegalize it places. It saddens me that there is so much blatant bigotry going on that law itself had been bent to allow these biased people more than just an opinion, it really does.
Then again, this year there was talk of legalizing marijuana, as long as you’re not smoking it. Excuse me as I go burn a few more shreds of what’s left of my respect for the interworking of the legal system.
Fortunately, I have a backup plan in case everything fails. It is to move to Canada. You may join me there, so long as I like you.

35. Whom did you miss?
Tim and Sophie

36. Who was the best new person you met?
OHGOSHSOMANY. There are so many, I'm not even going to try to list them. It would have been a tie between Ryan and Jamie, but I like Jamie better. 0#0 Sorry Ryan.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson(s) you learned in 2009.
Actually, I have quite a few.

THEY SAID 'NEVER SAY NEVER!' SO...ALWAYS REMEMBER, NEVER:
-use a stuffed bunny as a weapon
-step in a wood chipper
-throw a skillet
-dodge a skillet
-reveal what is on page 329
-Serenade your best friend with a rendition of "Georgia"
-go to the bathroom in sin
-Cross an elephant's heart
-forget that staircases are not solids
-try to explain sarcasm to an Icelandic Gentleman
-Try to teach Lokii to juggle
-found 'Caucasian-Lund'
- Forget Dylan
- position yourself directly beneath a spider
-sit on a cactus
-call the number in an anchovy tim
-drop a doorknob on your toe
-take a nap in The Box
- Sissy-slap in The Box
-put things that don't belong to you in your mouth
-Miss the chance to have a hostage situation with a backpack
-Underestimate a plastic butterfly
-Trust the early recruits with liquids
-Lick a doorknob (Schvick Uden will grant you wishes)
-Expect an outsider (that means you, the person reading this shirt) to understand this list

WORDS TO LIVE BY. And yes, this list was made into a fabulous shirt

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
“And it's funny how you find you enjoy your life/when you're happy to be alive”~ High of 75 by Relient K, as melodramatic as it is.
Also the entireity of Bohemian Rapsody by Queen and 'We are the Pirates who don't do anything' the one sung by larry though. Though Relient K is good, they left out lyrics.

  2. Aw, I'm sorry. 2009 was a year of ups and downs for me. There was never any middle ground. Luckily, I think they pretty much managed to balance themselves out. ^30
More bad than good for you I guess? T3T

  3. I am so dreadfully glad that you enjoyed this meme as much as I did - and that you too fancy the word 'quaintrelle'! It is a lovely word, isn't it? :)

  4. Indeed it is. Combine that with the fact that it makes me think of quails in embroidered jackets, and it is well on it's way to 'favorite word until I forget or something else comes along' status
